The Electric State

The Electric State Review: Based on Simon Stålenhag's 2018 graphic novel, this Myflixer movie was written and directed by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and produced by the Russo Brothers. Chris Pratt, Jenny Slate, Giancarlo Esposito, Stanley Tucci, Ke Huy Quan, Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, and Millie Bobby Brown are among the actors who star in the movie. The two-hour and eight-minute film transports us to a future world in which the conflict between humans and robots has completely changed the landscape. The film centers on Michelle, an orphan, who teams up with Cosmo, a robot, to track down her long-lost brother.

I genuinely believed that The Electric State Myflixer would be a fun dystopian future. However, I ended up with a plodding film that lacked emotional depth and had an excessive amount of talk. It's exciting to think about a future in which humans and robots used to battle and now live together via virtual reality. However, the film doesn't accomplish much with it.

I didn't care about Michelle's hunt for her brother, even though it should have been heartwarming and poignant. It is difficult to care about what is happening because of the characters' lack of chemistry and their boring dialogue. The production of this film reportedly cost $320 million. That is a ridiculous sum of money. Not a single scene, though, left me thinking, "Wow, this looks amazing." Like a collection of computer-generated imagery thrown together with little to no originality, everything seems strangely dead. This looked far better than some of the lower-budget sci-fi movies I've watched.

I kept hoping for at least one breathtaking moment, anything that would put the enormity of this world into perspective. But it never materialized. Instead, the amazing effects aren't quite as spectacular as they should be, and the planet appears drab. I want a visually iconic film if I'm going to spend this much money on it. This was a massive waste of resources instead.
